Patty Owen, MS, L.Ac.
Patty graduated from the Tai Sophia Institute with a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture. She is licensed in the State of Maryland and nationally board certified as well. She has been doing clinical work for 10 years. Patty is also Associate Faculty at the TAI Sophia Institute in Laurel, MD, where she teaches acupuncture students anatomy and point location. Patty has two offices; one in Columbia, MD at the Classical Acupuncture and Healing Center and the other at Morrison Chiropractic in Ellicott City, MD. She became an acupuncturist at the age of 40 because she was passionate about the changes she observed in her own health through acupuncture, and looks forward to partnering with her current patients to a more optimal place in their own health care.
Julie Payne-Funk, President of Solace, LLC
After graduating from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.A. in English Language and Literature, and working as an executive assistant for a number of years, Julie found her true calling in hands-on healing. In 2008, she graduated with honors from the Baltimore School of Massage, the oldest massage therapy school on the East Coast. She became a a State of Maryland Licensed Massage Therapist by passing the state and national licensure exams, receiving NCTMB (national) certification, and is also a member of the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).
While studying massage therapy, Julie became interested in complementary healing methods such as Reiki and Reconnective Healing® and is now a certified Usui and Karuna Reiki Master Teacher. She is a level 3 Reconnective Healing® practitioner authorized to perform the Reconnection®. In March, 2010 Julie formed her own company, Solace, LLC, a practice of therapeutic massage and energy work designed to leave clients refreshed in body and spirit. The idea of serving others by the grace of a higher power is central to Julie's practice. Volunteering is important to her, and she is donates free treatments on a regular basis to organizations such as the Cancer Support Foundation of Ellicott City, Maryland. Julie and her husband of 25 years, Matt, are the proud parents of three children.
In the summer of 2010, Julie was honored to be welcomed to the office of Morrison Chiropractic, PA, as an independent wellness practitioner. Jessica Sleight, MAc, LAc
Jessica studied Five Element Acupuncture and received a Masters of
Acupuncture from Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, MD. Previously, she received a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and Nonprofit Management from Western Washington University, working with various nonprofit programs and organizations over a ten year period. Experiencing Acupuncture for herself, led to her career change. This allowed her to blend her degrees and continue helping people to find balance and health in their lives. Jessica spent much of 2010 doing an apprenticeship program in Colorado to learn about Acupuncture and Sports Injuries and Pain. As a lifetime runner, running coach, and Howard County Strider member, it has been important for Jessica to combine her love of running and the benefits of acupuncture to help fellow athletes in the community. Currently, she is continuing her studies in Chinese Herbs at Tai Sophia Institute.
Z. Colette Edwards, M.D., M.B.A.
Colette is a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist who received her BA from Harvard, her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the Wharton School. She completed a residency in internal medicine from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology from the University of California, San Francisco. Colette has completed a graduate certificate program in health and wellness coaching from the Tai Sophia Institute.
Dr. Edwards brings the same concern, passion, and commitment to coaching that her patients experienced from her as a practicing gastroenterologist with Patuxent Medical Group. Colette offers confidential, customized in-person and telephonic health, wellness, and life coaching services through PeopleTweaker. Areas of particular interest include coaching healthcare and other busy professionals, perimenopausal and menopausal women, adults with chronic medical conditions (including diabetes, cancer, overweight/obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and chronic liver disease) and individuals contemplating a career transition.
